Central Park

Alice in Wonderland statue in Central Park

Alice in Wonderland statue in Central Park

A man once told me that he didn’t know there are trees in New York City.  Well there are over 26,000 trees in Central Park alone, made up of over 140 species.  Not to mention, Central Park’s over 240 acres of lawn, 200 species of birds, 7 bodies of a water, 2 ice rinks, pool, zoo, antique carousel with hand-carved wooden horses, formal garden, miles and miles of walking paths, boat house (with boats for rent!), outdoorChildren are encouraged to climb on the Alice in Wonderland statue in Central Park theater, marionette theater, outdoor music venues, art museum, 2 restaurants, horse-drawn carriages, bicycles (including rentals), castle, ball fields, checker & chess house, fountains and playgrounds.  Central Park is 2.5 miles (4k) long by .5 mile (1K) wide – 843 acres of beauty right in the middle of the City (and we don’t have to mow the lawn, pull weeds or rake leaves)!

My favorite section of the park is known as the Children’s Section.  There is a playground, of course.  Also, a pond, with model sailboats with radio controlled rigging for rent.  There is a statue of Hans Christian Andersen and the ugly duckling.  The statue is made so children (both big and small) can sit on his lap.  Every Saturday at 11am, the Parks Department sets up chairs for the children who attend story hour at the statue.  There is also an 11 foot Statue of Alice-in-Wonderland in the Children’s Section.  The statue was designed and made for children to climb on.  So, if you are coming with children (or maybe not), make sure to request that we visit the Children’s Section of Central Park as part of our New York City tour.

Hey, we're family!
